General Statement of Intent

  • Safety, Health, Environment, and continuous improvement and staff training in these fields, are a top priority for SEMT when providing any service or delivering any project.
  • Our intention is to provide and maintain safe and healthy working conditions, that protect not only our workers, but the environment, equipment and all assets onsite as well. That is why we provide constant training and supervision for our staff, as well as keeping our guidelines uptodate and based on international norms and standards.
  • All our operations are always carried out while ensuring the highest safeguards against exposing people and material to any risks, and all employees are required to take full responsibility for ensuring a safe and healthy work environment, as well as for taking care of their own health and safety and that of their fellow workers, or any other persons who may be affected by their work.
  • It is the Company’s policy to comply with current and future Health, Safety and Environmental Legislations and Standards, and to cooperate with those responsible for its enforcement.
  • The policy will be kept up to date, as the Company changes in nature and size. To ensure this, this policy and its effectiveness will be reviewed and updated on yearly basis.
  • Employees will be always reminded that it is a criminal offence for anyone to intentionally interfere with, or misuse, anything provided by the Company in the interests of Health and Safety as required by Law, or fail to use it properly.
  • The policy statement shall be displayed in the offices of the Company, will be part of the site documentation available held by each supervisor, and shall be brought to the attention of all employees at the induction process and throughout the year by means of toolbox talks and audit systems. 

General Policy Statement

  • It is the policy of SEMT to pursue high standards of safety, health, and environmental management, as an integral part of efficient management of the business, and to ensure that decisions about other priorities take proper account of safety, health and environmental requirements.
  • Comply with all legislation requirements and Company policy pertaining to safety, health and the environment as the minimum standard.
  • Develop systems and procedures that deliver the high standards sought, and in particular provide for:
  • Well maintained plant and systems of work that are safe and without risk to safety, health, or the environment.
  • Suitable arrangements for selection, use, handling, storage and transport of articles and substances.
  • Adequate information, instruction, training and supervision carried out by persons with the necessary competence, to enable work to be completed safely and without risk to the environment .
  • Safe premises and workplaces, including access to and egress from them.
  • Safe and healthy working environment to prevent personal injury or damage to property.
  • Design which recognise, include and apply safe practice during preparation, construction and subsequent operational use and maintenance after completion of the New Sealine construction, and which consider environmental impact.
  • Prevention of polluting emission to air, land or water.
  • Control of noise, dust, smell, vibration, traffic movement or other nuisance or environmental effects which may cause offence to the local community or environment.
  • Waste management including recycling were appropriate.
  • Communication, health surveillance and advisory facilities as required.
  • Develop and review clear safety, health and environmental performance indicators including accident and incident performance, annual safety, health and environmental objectives, training achievements, and audits.

Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for Health and Safety in the Company is that of the Managing Director.
  • General Manager has the delegated responsibility for ensuring that the conditions of this Policy are observed at all the Company’s worksites. In these matters, he reports directly to the Managing Director.
  • Company Safety Advisor shall work with all departments, co-ordinate, consult and advise, to achieve a safe work place, ensure all legislation is fore filled and all controls are in place to achieve the spirit of the company’s policy.
  • A Nominated Site Safety Officer will be appointed at each workplace, and has the day-to-day responsibility of ensuring that the spirit as well as the letter of this Policy is carried out.
  • Reports directly to the General Manager, and liaise with the Company and Clients Safety Coordinator, with particular reference to permits to work.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all equipment, tools and personal protective equipment (PPE) are in good condition and used only for their intended purpose, and for ensuring that only recognised good, safe working practices are observed and carried out onsite.
  • Whenever an employee encounters a Health, Safety or Environmental problem, they must report it to their Site Safety Officer or his deputy, as soon as practicable.
  • All employees have a responsibility to cooperate with the Company management and Safety Advisor or any person they may appoint, to work to achieve a healthy and safe workplace, and to exercise all reasonable care of themselves and any others who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work.
  • Consultation on Health, Safety and Environmental matters, between employer and employees will be ongoing on a regular basis.
  • Responsibility for safety training, carrying out safety inspections, investigating accidents, and monitoring maintenance of plant and equipment is undertaken by the GM and the Safety Advisor.
